Hi there coach,

I have problems in my attacks specially the forehand topspin. I already mastered the strokes and consistency of the forehand topspin, but my next problem is building up power. I, myself find my topspin stroke very weak. is there any way how I can build up power to my attacks?

Hi Wayne,

To start to generate more power the key elements is the speed of your racket when you contact the ball and the type of contact you make.

Firstly to get more speed there are a few elements that will help. Your arm speed is one and you also need to think about getting the rest of your body to work with you to add speed.  This involves the feet, legs, waist and finally the arm and wrist to all come together to help you.  This is the summation of forces.

Finally if you contact the ball slightly flatter rather than brushing the ball the ball will move a little faster again.

The whole stroke needs to be coordinated. This may sound contradictory but,  it is best to get this coordination while doing the stroke slowly to start with and then building the speed that you are moving through the stroke.

It may take time but you will work through this problem.  We cover this with a video lesson in our Master Class on Faster Forehand Topspins.

hi alois, i can get a lot of speed on my forehand but slong with considerable spin too. but when i try the way you taught the faster forehand(with lesser spin) it just ges off the table for a closed face. why does it happen?

also how do i keep a topspin low over the net? i keep a relatively closed face but it still happens.
