Hi Pingskills,

In my practice sessions, when I practice the push, very often I make it going high, off the table or into the net because I can' t read the amount of backspin well. Another thing that confuses me is the deepment of my opponent's push and also I find it difficult to position the push well. I find that stroke a bit difficult as well as my partner but our coach says that it's the easiest stroke after the counterhits and we know that it's very important for match situations but I am finding it really difficult to deal with the spin however my topspin stroke is much better. How to improve my consistency with the push?

Hi Nasko,

The push looks like an easy stroke and it is at the basic level.  However there is a lot of small adjustment that you need to make for each ball to get the ball low and in the correct position. It takes a lot of touch.  Try to practice your pushing often in training.  The more you  hit the push the better it will become.  There are too many small angle changes to talk about it technically.  One practice that I find useful is to use the strong across the net like in our lesson on Keeping The Ball Low. This gets you to focus on this skill well in training.
