I am 50 years old  I have been playing for 40 years  Mostly against my 51 year old brother.   We have dominated our friends and family members.

I do not get a chance to play very often as I got older. I have never been in a tournament.   I am going to join a table tennis club this month.  I was able to play two sessions free at the club. Now I am obligated to join.   I was in the middle of the pack as far as skill level at the club.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND ON A NEW BAT. Can you recommend a bat for an old guy getting back into the game

Ido not have a tournament level ranking   However I was competing evenly with the 1000  to  1250 level members  Had trouble with the 1250 and above players

Hi Bob,

Firstly, joining a club is a great idea.  It will really improve you by playing with the other players.

As fas as a bat is concerned, there are two real levels of bat.  If you have been playing with a pre-made bat till now, it is probably time to step up to a custom made bat.  If you are already using a custom made bat you can think about moving up to something a bit faster.

I will point you in the direction of our Custom Made PingSkills Bats as a guide.  You could start with the PingSkills Touch with Mark V, then move up to the Touch with Pryde and then to the Vega Pro.  These are incrementally faster.  So depending on the level of your play and your type of game you can choose something along these lines.

As far as costs the most expensive of these is $150.

Go for a control blade and then choose a rubber that will suit you.
