Hi Atif,

The basic principle is to track the ball carefully. This will help you to pick up where the ball is going just that little bit earlier.

Get a partner to hit the ball anywhere to you while you hit to one position.  They can increase or decrease the speed of the ball depending on how well you are coping.  This will get you to track the ball better.  This and lots of other drills are covered in our Training Secrets Revealed DVD.

Keep your bat in a central ready position in general, neither favouring the forehand or backhand.  If you are blocking also keep your bat up quite high in front of you.

Take a look at the lesson on the Ready Position.  This will give you some ideas as well.

The Controller

Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.

I'd also suggest keeping yourself on a side-on stance, shoulders held high and with eyes very keen on watching the ball.
