Hello, I was wondering if you had any better ideas for me regarding returning a serve an opponent hits that is a backspin chop serve. I usually try to do a short push return but it does not seem to be real effective. I am wondering if you have any better ideas for me to try? Thanks in advance, Brian

Hi Brian,

What you are trying is the best method to start with.  The reason it may not be effective is that you may not be getting the return short or low enough.

To get the ball shorter you need to have a soft hand.  Pick out a spot about 12" from the net in the middle of the table and direct the ball straight onto it.  Do not try to lift the ball up onto it as it will mean a slower and hgher return will result.  Make a point of dircting the ball straight from your bat to the spot via a straight line.  Be aware of the height of the ball over the net and the speed that the ball is hitting the spot.  It should skid through of the spot.

Just try this method and see how you go. Let me know the results.
