Strokes
Hi Coach,
During the drill some defensive players will keep chopping and I would topspin or chop back. If I keep chopping he ends up winning the point by me throwing it in the net. Lately, I noticed that there is another way of me playing a long and deep push (even for long balls out of my side of the table) as if a less aggressive smash with racket angle basically nearly flat ( rather that 90 degrees from floor) . It resembles like playing tennis and with a deep long push. With players who are good in forehand loop they simply kill me with a faster drive, so I tend to give back to their backhand.
Do you recommend this tactic against defensive players. I will normally mix the game with long push and topspin and chopping back.

Hi Rama,
Variation is a good tactic. The shot you are talking about sounds like a bit of variation. If it is working for you then it is good. It sounds like a lift of the ball with out topspin. This will be limited as to how fast you can hit it but as a change it is a good idea.
It requires a bit of touch to keep this ball on the table.
It can be difficult to know how to deal with a slow spinny topspin. Although the ball may be slow, the topspin makes it hard to return effectively. This lesson presents 3 options of how to counter such a ball.
