My friend serves with some kind of spin and when I hit the ball it goes out of the table.  How can I return it?

Hi Yaseen,

This is one of the hardest things about Table Tennis to start with. We have made a whole series of lessons on how to return spin.  You can access it by taking out a Premium membership, even for a month which will allow you access to all of our lessons across the site including the Receiving Secrets section.  Take a look at the section to see what is available.

Once you understand the principles, you will be able to copy with a lot of serves.

One main thing is to just use the angle of your racket to get the ball back.  Don't try to do too much with your stroke.  By using your bat like a rudder you can steer the ball back on the table.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
