Receiving
I recently watched your video on how to do this serve(which was quite helpful), but I have also played with people who are capable of doing it. This is a serve that I can never seem to return. So my question is "What do I do when faced with the Ma Lin Serve?"
Hi Evan,
Because the ball is travelling slowly it is best to play the ball short back. Use a push stroke to do this. You need to open the face of your bat up to allow for the backspin. You won't need too much forward movement with your bat because the heavy backspin when it hits your rubber will take the ball back to the other side.
Question actions
After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
