Strokes
Sirs,
Firstly i must thank you for the wonderful training videos you have made which has helped me to really improve my game and i am really enjoying it as well...
My usual understanding of returning serves is to move my bat exactly in the opposite angle or direction from where the serve has actually begun... Is this the right way.. it works for me and some time doesnt. Hence i am a bit confused.
Can you please help me understand the concept of returning side spin serves, back spin serves and the top spin serves...
i have a TT tournament coming up at my work place and i am preparing for the same.
Thanks
Hi Rajiv,
Moving your bat on the return will give you the result but it is also very risky. The best solution is to just use the angle of your bat to return the ball. So if the ball is going to the right off your bat, then you need to angle the bat to face the left. This will counter the spin. Just get the angle of your bat correct rather than trying to move your bat across the line of the ball.
We explain in great detail the concepts of returning spin and also how to recognise different types of spin in our Receiving Secrets Revealed DVD. You can also get this DVD as part of our PingSkills Super DVD Pack. They are available either in DVD form or as a download which you will be able to get straight away.
Timing can help you to improve your stroke. It can also be a reason that you are struggling with your stroke. By changing the timing you can change the type of ball your opponents is facing.

Thanks Alois..
But just a small question again... does facing the bat always helps.. i mean i tried but its kind of pretty easy pickings for my opponent. dont we need some pace when we return serves or like you suggested just blocking the ball is the best option...
