Returning serve

Receiving

Hello Alios/Jeff,

My opponent serve me a long serve (its not too long but just long enough for the 2nd bounce to go off the table marginally) close to my switching point.

I pivot a liitle and return with a forehand topspin..he sees my forehand part open and blocks (block punch) it to hit a winner..

I am not sure how to effectively return this.. the serve is low enough so I cannot attack it with much power. This pressure makes me miss my stroke sometimes.. any ideas please...? (my backhand is relatively weak..so i try using my forehand)

May be I can send u guys a video of it..

Thanks.

Hi Anoop,

The key here is your placement and variation when you make this return.  The slow ball can be effective if put into the right place.  Take a look ta our lesson on the Slow Spinny Topspin. This is the stroke you want to be playing.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
