Hi Gerhard,

With the short backspin ball you need to really punch through the ball with a very flat bat.  The backspin will kick up off your bat so you din't need to lift it.  Try to get the return deep and fast as possible.

To practice get someone to serve a variety of serves to you.  Try to play an appropriate return off each serve.  This is no different to learning to receive serves with any type of rubber.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
