Returning spin using tacky rubber

Hello favourite olympians,

I was wondering, since I play with tacky sheets: am I handicapped to an extent in returning spinny serves, because I heard spin has the most effect on a tacky top sheet?

I played against one guy at my club, and found myself needing to *completely* close the angle of my bat just to return his hammer sidespin serve. The edge of my bat was literally pointed to the middle line.

How can I possibly return such a serve, if it is too long, with a topspin? Do I have to topspin the ball with a bat angle facing an imaginary table at my side?

Best regards

Hi Dieudonne,

If the rubber you are using is fast and grippy it does require more touch to be able to get the ball on the table.

If the serve is long then do think about topspinning it to be more effective.

Yes, the rubber is relatively fast (hard 2mm sponge) and grippy (Chinese-made).

Thanks again. I will keep your words in mind!

Is it the Palio rubber?
