Returning The Punch Serve

Hi Alois,

Sometime ago you made a video about par gerrel's punch serve. Can you make a video about how to counter it! I would really love it and appreciate it if you did... As my friends use it very effectively and I am never able to return it. Please, please, please make a video.

Hi Manav,

I will try to get to that.  We have a very busy filming schedule at the moment.

You need to watch the serve closely.  The main change comes in the contact, whether they hit over the top or under the ball.  This will determine if it has backspin or topspin.  The change will be very subtle which makes the serve harder to read.  I find I often misread the amount of topspin on the ball and the return goes too high.  If this is happening to you try flicking the return more and see if your results improve.
