Hi, I am having trouble generating anough spin on my reverse pendulum serves since I don't have the same arm movement as I do with pendulum or tamahawk, what can I do so that my oponents dont kill my reverses anymore. and how do you do backspin with these, i can do side and top (great for a killshot) and pure side but never back.

Thank you,

Fred

Hi Fred,

The reverse pendulum can be a tricky serve to master. It is important to remember the basics though. To generate spin you need two things regardless of the serve:

  1. A brushing motion
  2. Racket speed

With the reverse pendulum serve you will need to use a lot of wrist to get the racket speed required to generate the spin.

In order to get backspin you need to try and contact the ball at or near the bottom and come underneath the ball. To do this, you will need to get your elbow up nice and high when you contact the ball. Generally with the reverse pendulum serve you will also get some sidespin with your backspin.

Hi Fred,

Take a look at the video below which shows Alois serving the Pendulum Serve and the Reverse Pendulum Serve. You can see that for the Reverse Pendulum serve, he brushes the ball and gets the bat moving quickly using his wrist. This is the key to generating the spin.

Also note how effective these two serves are in combination with one another. The pendulum serve curls from left to right and the reverse pendulum curls from right to left. This makes it harder for the receiver to get in to a groove when returning. Let us know if this helps you out.

Thank you very much!!!  I'll try that this after noon.  I think the problem is I was trying to do the doube motion to confuse the oponent and I had no more arm movement on the way back
