Reverse Penhold Backhand Angle

Strokes

I've recently started using the penhold grip and I can't seem to return balls without sidespin. What should the angle of the bat be so that I can get pure topspin?

Hi Romeo,

This is an awkward part of the stroke.  See if you can get the bat facing directly to where you want the ball to go.  This will allow you to get pure topspin.  It si an awkward angle to get your wrist into.  Relax your wrist and you can also slightly shift your finger position to allow the bat to face the right direction.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
