Robot training getting worse in match

So before  this quarantine situation, I was playing well and had good strokes and foot movement. Now at home, I practice at home with a robot everyday and with my brother and dad. But, I seem to be getting worse. I am losing my strokes and not moving as well as I did before. Not to offend my brother or dad, but I am better than them technique wise. But, for some reason, I keep losing to them and playing terrible. Do you know why this is happening to me and what I need to do to fix it?

thanks

Hi Faizaan,

I find that often the skills on a robot don't necessarily translate well to playing a game against another player.

I think the robot can be good for learning the basic skills and for something very specific with your skill.  There is a big gap though to then being able to play that same ball in a match.  There are completely different clues coming from another player compared to the ball coming out of a robot.

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage.  Allow yourself to get used to playing against other players.  Those basic skills that you have developed are relevant somewhere, just don't have too big an expectation on yourself.

You may feel like you should be hitting those balls the way that you were against the robot.  That definitely won't happen straight away so give yourself some time.

What are your opponents weaknesses? These are critical to formulating a plan. This week we are going to focus on your strengths and next week we'll tackle your opponents weaknesses.
