Rubber off the edge

Equipment

Hi Alois,

nothing important, I’m just curious:

I sometimes see that pro players have cut their rubbers larger than the blade - why do they do this?

And what about this official rule then: "The covering material shall extend up to but not beyond the limits of the blade, (...)" ?

Hi Thomas,

They usually allow you a 2mm tolerance off the edge of the blade.  Previously they used to do it in case of shrinkage when using speed glue.  I think now they just don’t worry about cutting it too perfectly close to the edge.  I guess too it is easier to cut it down rather than change the rubber if it gets too short and not covering the blade properly.
