Hi Alois,

In doubles if my side wins the choice to serve or receive and we choose to serve. Are the opposition allowed to then decide which of them will receive. If the server doesn't want to serve to that person can he pass the ball to his partner to serve. On seeing that would the receiver then be allowed to swap back again so his partner receives first.

Thanks for all your support and advice.

Hi Les,

If you win the toss you can decide to serve, receive, choose which end you want to start at or choose to give the other team the choice.

The first serving team can then decide who is going to serve first.  Once they have decided who is going to serve, the receiving team can then decide who is going to receive from that server.

Therefore, sometimes it is beneficial to decided to receive first so that you can manipulate the order.

Hitting the Ceiling

When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.
