I am getting ready to play in the main state tournament. I need to improve my Serves. I was wondering are 3 serves that i should practice the most for the tournament? I like sidespin serves. I have been trying the tomahawk serve and like that. I have also tried the pendulum serve but I just can't get it. Any tips will help.

Hi John,

You will find that 2 or 3 serves is all you really need.   It is more important to work on getting those few serves better.  Spend the time doing that between now and your tournament.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

Which 3 serves would you suggest?

I would go with the 2 or 3 you are most confident with, whichever they are.
