Service secrets while playing doubles

Receiving

After playing table tennis for last 6 months I could improve my placement of ball in the table and forehand smashes to some extent. However, the only thing I need to focus more is returning the serve while playing doubles, where I give the easy points to the opponent. Since I use mostly backhand for returning, it becomes little confusing for me to return the spinned serves.

Seeking some suggestion to improve. :)

Hi Sagarika,

This will take a little time to orientate yourself to the ball and spin at that different angle.  Try to focus on the ball itself and you will find that the you will see that it becomes easier.  It is just the change in angle that throws your judgement off.

Returning Short Topspin Serves: Two Options

Returning a short topspin serve can be tricky because the spin wants to lift the ball up. In this video, we look at two effective options: developing an attacking flick and learning how to push the ball safely.

For the flick, the key is to be positive. Take a few risks, hit through the ball a little harder, and aim for a fast, flat contact. In practice, don’t worry too much about making mistakes as this is how you learn to control the shot under pressure.

The second option is the push. You can push a short topspin serve, but you need to adjust your contact. Instead of getting under the ball, come down the back of it more, almost feeling like your bat is moving slightly backwards. This helps counter the topspin and keeps the return lower and more controlled.

Thanks Alois,

However, my focus at first is to read and diffuse the spin rather than counter attacking. Will keep you posted regarding my improvement.

Thanks Again!!
