Serving

Hello, After watching your demonstration of how to execute pure backspin on serving by contacting the ball underneath with a completely flat level bat please advise how you impart enough forward movement to get the ball up the table and over the net. Thank you in anticipation of your reply.......Les

Hi Les,

You need to make sure that you rubber has good grip on it.  The rubber gripping the ball will get it moving forward.  If the rubber is slippery, the ball will not go forward and you will need to close the angle of your nailed more to get it forward and over the net.

So adjust the angle of your racket slightly to get the ball to move forward enough.

Hi Alois, Thank you very much for your reply. I would say though that my rubbers do have very good grip. When I make contact with a completely open bat as you suggest in your video lesson 34 so that it brushes the very bottom of the ball it imparts a lot of bottom spin but not much forward trajectory unless I close the angle in order to hit more on the back of the ball but this then is not as you describe "Pure back spin". It would be of great benefit to me and a few others that I have spoken to about this if you are able to video your stroke so that we can see from a close up shot of the contact you make how open the bat is and how you are able to propel it up the table. Thank you very much for all the work you do in passing on your teachings............Les
