Serving Recoil

Coach

I notice a lot of top players at the end of the contact the bat is not moving or it is even moving backwards.  Can you explain the reason for this.  For my heavy backspin serve I have to really follow thru with the bat and sometimes it will even hit my stomach as the bat continues to move forward to get heavy spin.  If I stop the bat at contact I get much less spin.

cheers

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Because they are using the whipping action of the bat the bat recoils after contact.  You will find it doesn’t actually stop at the point of contact but goes through further.  I often hit my stomach as well when I am serving.

So I am not the only one who can hit himself into the chin while making a topspin pendulum? (which is still spinless)
