Serving Short

Serving

I am working on serving short and one of the challenges I am having is figuring out if I need to get a finer brushing stroke or simply take a little speed off the stroke.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Try to keep the same speed but get a finer contact.  This will ensure you are still getting a good amount of spin.  If you slow the stroke down you will potentially get less spin.

No Spin Serve

It may sound like a bad idea but the no spin serve can be effective when put together with a range of spin serves. In fact, this is a must have in your arsenal of serves.

Yes it can.

Alois, any thoughts on where the bounce on the servers side should be? Usually it is taught that you should have the bounce close to the net, but I have read one book that suggested that moving the first bounce a little towards the server changes the angle the ball bounces up the other side of the net and so is harder to return short as it will have just a little more forward momentum when the receiver hits it.
