Helllo,

After watching alot of pro table tennis, i was really confused about their serve, and it looked really hard to pull off. Then i came across a video on the PinkSkills youtube channel, that said that we shouldnt be using a plain topspin. Instead you mentioned short topspin serves.

Can you please tell me how can i pull off a short topspin serve, that i see most pro players do? it looks really confusing.

Thanks alot! Your videos are really help. Keep up the good work!

Hi Christian,

Firstly you start with the basic pendulum serve.  Then instead of hitting the ball on the way down, you hit it as the bat is coming upwards.  Therefore the ball will have topspin because the rubber is brushing up on the ball.

If you think of the pendulum motion with the pendulum going down and then up, you may find it easier to picture.

Next, get the ball to bounce close to you on your own side of the table and get it very low over the net.  The topspin will help to get the ball to dip quickly over the net.   It is difficult to get just right and will require a bit of practice.

Thanks for replying!

Thats the thing, the serve i use is a plain topspin serve that you guys said i shouldnt be using. So i decided to change my serve.

The thing is i dont know the basics of a regular pendulum serve, i only practiced the reverse backspin pendulum serve. Can you please tell me how to execute the pendulum serve you are talking about?
