Strokes
Hello Coach,
I am currently using a Stiga Spica.
It is a very fast bat with minimal control, I have learnt controlling it as i have been using it for the past 2 years but i am noticing now that my forehand topspin stroke has deteriorated as it ends above my head and becomes a sidespin stroke i am really concerned about this matter.
Please Help
Regards,
Ayush
Hi Ayush,
To straighten out your topspin, first try just watching the flight of the ball when you hit it. By watching the flight you will start to adjust the wrist naturally.
The key factor is the angle of your wrist at the point of contact. If the wrist is bent, you will start to generate sidespin. You may also want to think about the start position of your racket. If it starts behind your back it will come around in a curving motion and tend to contact the ball on the side.
The backhand flick allows you to attack a short ball. Learn this stroke to make it more difficult for your opponent to stop you attacking.

But sometimes I am forced to use a slow topspin which goes on to be a similar side spin stroke
my dad a former state player said that my reflexes are slow so pls tell some exercise to improve them
Hi Ayush,
I think multi ball is a good way of improving reflexes. By using multi ball you can get the ball coming faster than in a rally.
The other thing that you can focus on is watching the ball. This tracking of the ball will help you to see what the ball is doing a little earlier and therefore give you more time to react.
