Speed or spin

Match Strategy

Hi , I was just wondering that during a rally in a match, what matters is spin or speed . I mean if in a rally, my topspin have much speed with less amount of spin , then also it is difficult for my opponent to return it , on the other side if my topspin in having a lot of spin with a less speed ( just like a slow spinny loop ) then my opponent can easily finish it with a flat  . so in a rally should I put more effort on speed rather on spin (except the service) .

I also want to ask you the correct action and position for a loop on a cut ball (that goes high enough on a cut ball) with tremendrous amount of spin . Please give me a video answer if needed , thank you very much .

Hi Tushar,

The key is variation and feeling what your opponent isn't expecting.  If they are expecting a fast ball it is difficult to hit it fast enough to get through them but if you play a slow spin ball in this situation you may well win the point.

There is no definitive answer to which is better, it is just a matter of which is better for that shot at that time.

For a topspin against backspin take a look at our lessons page and watch the lesson on the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin.

Hi , thanks for your  advice , I want to know how to have an loop on any ball ( either lose or having cut ) having a lot of spin on it . Also can you please tell me an ideal position for almost all kinds of players having enough balance and so that I can move easily . I have an height of almost 5"10 .

Hi Tushar,

Take a look through the lessons on the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin and the Forehand Topspin Against Block.  You will see that if the ball has backspin you can have a more vertical swing.

YOu ideal position needs to be with wight on both feet.  Take a look at this lesson on Footwork Basics.  The key is bending your legs and having your feet wide.
