hey there coach,

i've been confused as of late with where on your racket you should ideally be making contact with the ball.

specifically with the forehand loop, i've been told a number of things. brush the ball and contact should be made on the bottom half of the racket. i've also been told optimal contact would be top right of center or thereabouts.

is there an overarching way to understand how spin will be affected in regard to specific contact points on the rubber/racket? (or at least within the context of each basic stroke? loop, chop, flick, push, serve, etc...?)

by the way ... really dig your vids and will hope to soon support you by purchasing a dvd or dvd pack. any recommendations?

 cheers,

 paul

Hi Paul,

One critical factor to gaining spin is how fast that part of your racket is moving.  So the part of the bat doing the biggest arc will be the best point.

You also need to think about how long the ball is staying on the rubber.  For the forhand topspin the best spot is on the top part of the racket.

For serving it is usually the end point furthest from your hand because that is moving fastest.

Point of Contact on Stroke

Where should you aim to contact the ball on your stroke? Is it better to take the ball, early, late or at the top of the bounce?
