Stay with Anti Spin or go with a Offensive Rubber

Hi Coach,

Firstly, thank you for taking time to read and respond to this question.

To give you a brief insight, I recently went from using a factory made Donic 1000 with Liga Rubber on both sides to putting together my first bat (getting serious with table tennis :) ) I am quite offensive with my FH and although I use my BH for defense mostly of the time, I often also use my BH flick or to hit a winning loop/ smash.

I face a lot of real fast top spin shots to my back hand and decided to go with Friendship 804 Anti spin on my backhand. As much as I find it helpful in defense ( to an extent when I position the bat at the correct angle), it's completely taken away my ability to lift the ball over the net when I perform a BH flick or loop/ smash. My confidence executing this shot has dropped. My game is certainly better when I am able to attack with both my BH and FH.

What BH rubber would you suggest to not only counter these fast top spin shots to my BH but also be able to execute an attack?

FH  - DHS Hurricane II

Blade - Donic Dotec Persson Off

Thank you for your time and patience,

Regards,

Jude

Hi Jude,

I would go for a Mark V rubber with a thinner sponge.  Perhaps 1.5mm.  This will give you good blocking ability and also be able to attack.  I definitely think changing away from the anti spin is a good idea.

Tone is in Your Fingers

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
