Sir,

I am playing tabletennis for 4 years and I am very enthusiastic about this sport. But in the game after hitting 2 consecutive forehand smashes my shoulder sort of freezes. For that I cannot perform well in high level matches...I shall be obliged if you suggest me how to fix this issue.

Hi Pratik,

This is tension that is developing in your shoulder.  It is often the first place that tension shows in a player.

In training practice hitting these shots and keeping the shoulder relaxed through the stroke.  The tension mainly develops because you are worried about if the ball is going to land on the table or not and whether you will win the point. Focus on hitting the stroke smoothly first rather than trying to get the ball on the table.  This will help.

Another technique that I have found that helps is to count each time you hit the ball.  However instead of counting 1, 2, 3... count 1, 1, 1... Each ball is the same not an accumulation of shots.

In our video on the forehand counterhit, Alois casually mentioned that if you can hit 1,000 forehands in a row you know you have mastered the stroke. Well, we thought we had better put ourselves to the test. So here is us attempting to hit 1,000 forehands on in a row. Enjoy!
