Struggling with Forehand and backhand chop

Hi Alex,

This is Manish, you know what whenever I try Forehand or backhand chop stroke the ball goes back quiet high on the table giving opponent a chance to smash. I have lost quiet a few matches because of that, for sure something is horribly wrong with my technique.

Regards

Manish

Hi Manish,

To keep the ball lower, try to brush under the ball more.  If you hit it flat it will tend to go higher.  By brushing the bottom of the ball you will find you will generate more spin and also be able to keep the ball lower.

Take a look at the lessons on the:

Backhand Push

Forehand Push

Forehand Chop

Backhand Chop

Learning to play the forehand topspin (also known as the forehand loop) in table tennis is one of the biggest steps forward you can take with your game. The topspin will cause the ball to dip down allowing you to hit the ball harder yet still maintaining consistency.
