Switching to forehand from backhand block position

I've developed the habit of generally keeping my bat in a backhand block position. So far this seems to be a decent habit, as it feels like every game I get at least one free super fast block or counterhit that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to catch in time. However, I run into issues when a ball has a bit of sidespin towards my forehand. I'm ready to block, then the ball ends up a few inches to the right and it hits my hand.

Is keeping my bat this position a bad habit or do I need to practice footwork and recognizing sidespin?

Hi Mark,

I think it is important to keep a neutral position with you racket and open up the possibility of using your forehand more.

The position of your racket depends on the ball that you have hit and what your opponent it doing.

If the ball is hitting you hand, it is probably more a matter of watching the ball more carefully to see the flight of the ball especially the last minute curve that is causing it to hit your bat.
