Hii coach...

This is Spandan.

I  am a 6 ft tall boy. I often face problem in returning heavy sidespin and long serves while playing both singles and doubles match.

Can you please advice me on my stance and shots for tackling these serves.

Hi Spandan,

The most important thing to start with is the Basic stance.  Especially since you are tall you need to get this right to lower your centre of gravity.

Take a look at the tutorial on the Basic Stance.

From this lower position you will be more mobile and be able to see and read the serves better. Watch the flight of the ball and against the long serves make a topspin return.

Thanks for your valuable advice coach.

I had a doubt. Should I stand far from the table or closer to the table as being tall.

And up to what extent should I bend my knees to stabilize my center of gravity.

Bend your knees a lot... Get an angle of about 120 degrees with your knees.

Stand at a distance where you can just touch the table with your bat when you are in the basic stance.
