I'm just wondering, who's the inventor of reverse pendulum serve? This technique has unusual body motion, so I believe there should be a record of the first player who used it.
Anyway, who has the best reverse pendulum? Some options I have here:
1. Timo Boll
2. Michael Maze
3. Zhang Jike
4. Ma Long
5. Werner Schlager
6. Someone else besides those names
Hi Erriza,
I am not sure who the inventor was but it has been used for a long time. One of the first players I saw using it effectively was Schlager. Only recently it has been used more.
I like Maze's Reverse Pendulum.
What do others think?
Let's see who can find evidence of the earliest Reverse Pendulum serve.

I'm sure alois won't be surprised I agree with his pick!

Jike has a pretty good one. It took me quite a while to realize it was a reverse serve and not just a normal pendulum serve.

Haha, it has been used for a long time, huh? Maybe it's some kind of fashion, it's a trend in this era, and maybe replaced by another in next generation. Probably the backhand tomahawk can be a trend someday! :D
Adrien Mattenet? Well, now you've mentioned it, I searched for his game, and I agree he also is a good reverse pendulum user. His serve is quite effective and also good looking as well :D . Maybe I want to try his style in my game.

Apparently it was first used by Chinese players sometime during the 1980's, but I haven't been able to determine the first player to use it there.
Fan Zhendong is one of the most effective players using this serve, and Liam Pitchford.
