Thi sis a position for just practising the Backhand counterhit. Jeff tends to stand a little further in the corner because he plays more forehands. This position is also a position that you would use because it is facing diagonally on the table.
In a rally that position would change significantly especially as the ball is placed wider to the forehand corner.
