Hello Sir,

I have 2 queries and they are as follows:

1. I would like to know about this 'Power from the ground' business. My Chinese friend seems to use this a lot. He is extremely weak, yet is able to hit topspins with incredible speed. He told me that it is entirely based on the leg and hip rotation. But I am not able to perform this thingy as I dont get enough time to do so; However he is able to do this motion even on the fastest ball! Can you pls tell me how to perform this move?

2. Since he uses this technique oftenly, Can u pls help me on how to return the ball low and fast?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanking you,

Omkar

Hi Omkar,

Getting power from the ground means that he is well balanced and generating the power by staying low and pushing off the ground where energy is started.

If you take a look at the lesson on the Basic Stance and also on Leg Position and Footwork Basics you will see the position I am talking about.

Then to generate more power watch the lessons on the Advanced Forehand Topspin and the Advanced Backhand Topspin for how to develop more power with your strokes.

Yes, sir but I have a problem. Today I had a match with him and I tried swinging my arm fast to get heavy topspin. However I ended up in having unbearable pain during the the 2nd set which caused me lose entirely. I also dont have enough time to turn my body to generate the spin and speed. Also I could not return that shot from him successfully. The consistency of keeping the ball on the table was low.

Can u pls help me with this?

Thank you

Now it is a matter off practice.  You can't implement things like this in a match without first practicing it a lot in training first.
