Hi Alois,

I have of late noticed that of all the attacking shots which I play during training drills/matches are not having a good timing. Due to this, the quality of the shot is different and also the result varies.

As per my understanding, timing of the shot depends on various factors viz. your footwork, fitness, anticipation etc. However, can we talk about a framework where any player can determine whether he is timing the ball correctly or not? May be you can share your views about this through a blog as I feel that this topic is very detailed.

The most troublesome part here is that most players are not aware of this problem and they feel that there shots are slow, not landing on the table etc. and try to fix it by opting for a faster equipment. Please share your views and also try to present a framework which can help.

Kind regards,

Mudit

Hi Mudit,

I think one of the basics that you can think about is getting the ball in the right hitting position.  A simple way to think about this is to think about the position you would catch a ball that is thrown to you.  That is a good guide as to your hitting position.

The timing od where you hit the ball in its flight path is not as important.  If you are balanced and hit the ball in this spot then your timing will be OK.

By watching the ball better and then improving your footwork efficiency to get into position quickly once you see where it is going.
