Strategy
hey alois i have found that i am most comfortable and excel in playing the style of a modern chopper.. could you give me any tactical advice to follow that could help me in games? For example, what do joo se hyuk and chen weixing do or what are their strong points so that they excel at the international level with such a style??
Hi Azhar,
Their basic principle is to defend o the backhand and put various amounts of spin on their defensive strokes. When the attacker misreads the spin and puts the return a little higher, they will come in and use their devastating forehand to hit a winner. Simple strategy but very effective at the highest level. They are not doing anything magical, just doing what they do very well.
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
