Hi Alois and Jeff,

love the site.

I have been working on my FH and BH tomahawk serve.

As part of my training I am videoing my serve practice to see what 'tells' that I am doing for each variation of spin as well as between the FH and BH.  I highly recommend this for deception btw. Anyway, I was referencing Kenta Matsudairas serve to check follow through and such and I notice how he came almost to a stop afterwards. I realize he has a great amount of wrist snap to generate spin.

so I checked my video to see where my follow through was going and found out I was getting pretty low in my stance( I should get a little lower), but I actually pull my follow through under the table and out of site, just after contact.

1. Is this legal? racket and ball were above table before the serve and at contact.

2. My follow through goes under the table for my top/side spin, pure side and under/side spin tomahawks, for both FH and BH.

Do you think the lack of visibility of my follow through makes for good deception? As there is nothing to see and therefore all variations have the same follow through...so to speak.

Hi Rory,

I think videoing your serves is a great idea to give you an idea of what your opponent is seeing.

Following through under the table after you hit the ball is legal.  It can be a good way to give your opponent less information as long as it feels comfortable for you with your serve.  The main thing is to make the contact as similar as possible.

Hi Alois,

Thanks for the quick reply.

the under the table follow through is natural. I didn't even realize it until I videoed myself.

the video also showed me that I was opening the FH side of my blade a little more for my FH tommy than my BH Tommy.

So I'm working on trying to keep that as straight as possible until the last second.

I'm getting great results with my Fh top/side spin tomahawk. The guys at the club are not picking up the top spin and just treating it like a pure side spin tommy and the are being popped up to my fore hand for a pretty easy kill.

thanks again.

R.

Good work.    Yes it is difficult to get the action to change at the last minute but try to get it as close as you can.
