Your lesson on " Top spin against backspin" helped me to improve my shot. But i find difficult to play topspin again slow and low chops. Should i practice the same shot as per your lesson? Or while trying to play topspin against low chop your hands movement need to be more vertical and not forward. When should you try to hit the ball in this situation ?

Please inform how to play the shot

I request you also to add some more trying lessons.

Hi,

When you are playing topspin against a low and heavily spun backspin ball your stroke needs to be more vertical.

So the more spin the more vertical, the less spin the more horizontal the stroke can be.

This will depend on the speed of your contact.  In theory you can use a horizontal stroke on any backspin ball as long as your bat is moving fast enough. The French are very good at doing this.  Jean Phllipe Gatien was a master of this stroke. But to start with the easier concept to implement is the first one.  So try more spin more vertical.

Your contact point to start with should always be the same in relation to your body, that is infront of your stomach.  You can turn a little more side on as you have a bit more time when you are playing against backspin.

When you need to reach that really wide ball the regular shuffle step just won't get you there in time so you need to use the crossover step. This is essentially a running action to get you to the ball as fast as possible.
