Hi,

I'm just wondering something. My coach likes me not to put my hand so behind when doing the topspin. ( starting position.

He tends to ask me to do that because he says you could a lower throw over the net and also you dont get that much time in a real game. I think he is definitely right, but i can't generate much spin

Pls help me to think of some ways to add spin to it. He also tells me to use more of the forearm so dont use the upperarm

Thanks

Hi Mat,

Your coach is right on all those matters.

To get more spin just hit the ball a bit finer.  Spin is more about the contact rather than the length of your swing.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.

True, swing is genrally speed and he thinks a long topspin with lots of topspin  will already be really hard to block. Thanks
