Topspin/Counter-hit a Flick

Strokes

I'm sure we have all seen how players attack the flick to their backhand with their backhand. The question is, are they doing a topspin or a counter-hit? I find it hard to believe that they are even able to attack the ball.

Hi Romeo,

The better players are making a topspin off the flick because they are seeing the ball early and have a very efficient topspin stroke.

At first though, you may need to make a counterhit because of lack of time.

Also, move back a little more when you see your opponent starting to make a flick.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.

I see. I'm going to have to try this one at practice. Thanks!
