Strokes
Hey Alois
I have a habit of SIDE SPINNING instead of TOPSPIN on my forehand.
Am I doing the right thing?
If not anyways to improve it?
Thanks and Regards ASHISH88
Hi Ashish,
Make sure you can play the stroke with pure topspin first before trying to get sidespin. When you have the pure topspin stroke you can start to play around with different types of spin. This will come from altering the angle of the wrist mainly so that you are contacting the ball directly behind the ball or on top of the ball instead of the side.
There are 3 basic areas to focus on when learning a stroke: 1) The position of your feet. 2) The starting position of your bat. 3) The finishing position of your bat. Of all these 3 elements the finish position is the most critical. Watch this video to find out why.

Eventually, you could learn how to freely choose between topspin and sidespin.
I have also gone through this process.
Now I can alter my angles from pure topspin up to about 45° sidespin with full consistency.
And I also started with sidespin.
Sidespin is much more difficult to perform several times in a row if they are blocked. Own experience.
But if you can freely alter the strokes, they can be a great weapon when you want to move the opponent.
