how should my topspin vary with height of ball and distance from ball to the net? thnx

Hi Lou,

You can vary the height of the ball by putting more spin on the ball or just hitting the ball slower.  Any variation can work depending on the opponent.  You can also vary the placement not only in distance from the net but also the position across the table.
