Hi Alois

I have been getting into a lot of these rallies recently and need help with a few things.

Where should I intercept the ball ?should I hit it just after bounce in case I'm caught close to the table against the long topspin ball?

When counter-looping what should i aim to do ? Finish the point by searching for a bad ball and smash it? Change the speed and spin and hope the opponent makes a mistake? or try to move towards the table to make a finisher.

What tactics should i master first?

THANKS a LOT

Hi Abhiram,

There is a lot you can do with topspin to topspin. In case you haven't seen it take a look at the lesson on this stroke.

One really important thing to do is keep the ball deep on their end to keep them away from the table.  You should try tomove forward as well but give yourself enough time and distance to play a full stroke.  You don't need to play fast all the time.  Vary the speed and spin to make it more difficult for them.

Ok thanks for clearing that up Alois!!!But where do you contact the ball if you are near the table and caught against a long topspin coming your way?Should you anticipate it and move back and let it drop or play at the right height for you while the ball is still rising?

Hi Abhiram,

It is difficult to get the timing right when you are close to the table because the ball is rising and still moving quite fast.  If you are caught there, it is better to block the ball into position.  If you do have time, move back into position to allow yourself more time to make the swing.
