Training
Hey coaches, I struggle against a player who has a very consistent and powerful smash, that usually gets past my backhand/forehand block. Are there any tips or drills that I can use to practice tracking the ball for more accurate blocks?
Hi Curtis,
The ore you can practice against fast players the better. This will help to speed up your ability to react.
You can use multiball for this but also try to get faster players because this is much more lifelike.
This way you are also getting cues from your opponent about other things like their body position. Make sure though that your focus is on the ball and you will see all the rest through your peripheral vision.
Question actions
The forehand and backhand topspin strokes are two of the most important strokes in table tennis. In lesson 6 you start playing these strokes first by getting someone to throw the ball to you. This makes it easier to get into the correct position and concentrate on the correct start and finish position, and the essential brushing contact. You can then progress to using this in a rally where your training partner learns to block the topspin back.
