Training
Hi Alois and Jeff,
I'm 21 years old and an advanced player. Now I want to help my coach with training the Junior players, most of them are 8-14 years old. Some are beginners and some are already a little bit more advanced
Now my question is, what can I do to make the training fun and intresting for them. Since I think I would be more of a serious coach, trying to focus on technique mostly. But I also want to keep training sessions fun and intresting for them.
So do you have any ideas for maybe some fun excercises for them they can do, some games? Anything.
Kind regards,
Rob
Hi Rob,
Try to find game type activities that you can do with them. Base it on the drills that you are using. For example if they are doing a footwork drill, do the drill but score how many rallies each player wins while still staying with the drill constraints.
Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.
