My name is Anaya Patel and I am 11 years old.  I started to play Table Tennis about 18 months ago as a hobby but in early 2015 I started to play competitively and was ranked 92 in England.   I am now ranked No 5 in England U12 and 11 at U13s.

I am seeking a sponsorship deal in pursuit of excellence in my sport and would be grateful if you can follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AnayaPatel

I currently train 12-14 hours per week at Kingfisher Table Tennis Club. My coach is Peter Charters, who was on the England Selection Committee for the Olympics. I am also training with Tom Maynard who is  ranked No. 12 in the Senior Men’s in England.  My club has produced many excellent players who have gone on to represent England including Mathew Sayed (Also Author of Bounce).

I travel all over England and play in competitions twice a month and hope to play abroad next year. It’s fair to assume Table Tennis is my life. “Sorry Mum, I meant to say Studying is my life J

Recently, I was nominated for Basingstoke Junior Sportswoman of the Year and have now been selected as a finalist. I will be attending the Sports Ceremony on Friday March 4th.

Last Month I was invited to play in Bristol by Table Tennis England in the Under 12 National Cup, which is where the top 10 under 12 girls play each other to win the cup. This was a prestigious event, as the England Selection Team were observing players.  The competition was held over 2 days and was very challenging, both physically and mentally.  I had 2 great wins and had 3 very close games which I lost in the 5th set!! I finished 6th overall. This was a great achievement as I was playing with the top girls in England, most of whom have been playing for at least 3 years.

My Performances/achievements for the last 18 months are:

·         Ranked No. 1 In Berkshire in both Under 13 and 15 age group

·         Ranked No. 5 In England in Under 12’s

·         Ranked No. 11 in England in under 13’s

·         Ranked No. 50 in England in Under 15’s

·         Represent Berkshire County Under 18’s in National Junior League (hopefully get promoted on March 12!!)

Hi Raj,

We will put it out there for people.

The Controller

Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.
