Serving
Hi Alois,
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a long, topspin, sidespin, or backspin serve?
Hi Brendan,
The main disadvantage to if the serve is long, it will give your opponent an opportunity to attack it. However it is easier to generate more spin when you get the serve long.
The backspin will mean it is slightly harder to attack fast. The topspin serve will go through faster and give them less time but it is also easier for them to attack if they are in position. The sidespin will make it harder for them to get the line of the ball and also will help to disguise the backspin or sidespin.

In general a short serve is better. However you have to see what works against the player you are playing at the time.
