A few days ago we had a school tournament which was team wise. I had won the previous individual tournament giving me the no. 1 spot in my school but this time i got knocked out in the first round as my team mates lost while i won. my sports teachers insist we only have team tournaments as 'it gives everyone a chance' but since im in in the team with the worst players i always loose. how do i convince my teachers?

Hi Mustafa,

I understand your situation.  I think though sometimes it is good to play in a team situaiton where you need to work with your team mates.

Table tennis doesn't often give us the opportunity to develop our team skills.

You will know that you are already a good player.  See if you can work with your team mates and improve their skills too.  You will find this will help your game as well.

Hitting the Ceiling

When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.

It's great to have the opportunity to play both individual and team tournaments.  I enjoy cheering my team mates (and seeing them win) even more than I enjoy winning my own matches.  You're obviously much stronger than your team-mates, and that can be frustrating, but it sounds like you do have the opportunity to participate in individual tournaments as well.  Just have fun, no matter what the format.
