Strokes

Hi, my footwork & handle grip along with my style is unorthodox, people suggest to adopt the technical ways but I'm not really comfortable with that. My game is allowing me to lead the competition although I think I will need to reinvent myself go to a higher level, is there many world champions who were unorthodox?

Hi Frank,

Unfortunately there are not really any World Champions that are too unorthodox.  The principles that are developed have come about for a reason and that is why the strokes that you learn initially are so important to get you to the highest level.

It will not be an easy task to change your techniques but if you want to really progress to a high level it will be an important step.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
